Movies or Recordings

My favorite movie so far that has been in theaters this year is District 9. This movie is probably one the the best movies I've ever seen, in enjoyment and for the just generally being well made. This movie had a very interesting and intriguing story that is different the most other movies of the same genres. It is unexpected and isn't flooded with lazy, stereotypical movie cliches. The special affects are fantastic, and its works looks genuine and realistic. What many people may be skeptical about is that in the beginning it heavily emulates a documentary style filming with interviews and such. That style soon fades away and progressively becomes more of "standard" movie screenplay but with the filming style staying somewhat the same. So if you are worried it will be annoying to watch like The Blair Witch Project or Cloverfield then don't be because everything is done well and it is easy on the eyes. It actually has a "soul" and isn't another BS Hollywood movie.

Magazines

This blog entry will be about a proposal for a new magazine.

- The magazine will be titled Abbey Road in honor of the The Beatles record of the same name.

-The concept of this magazine is that it will cover all things Rock N' Roll in an unbiased, open minded point of view. This means that this magazine will try to cover information regarding all legitimate genres, from bands to producers, to mixers, cover artists, etc.. Advertisements will be from different reliable brands of gear such as guitars and amps, and will be sponsored by reliable brands and not just anybody. Interviews will be conducted in a manner that will be professional and not with the intention of trying to get gossip abundant stories. Quality is top priority as well as giving people more flavors of different kinds of music from varies countries aside from America and Europe that they normally may not listen to.

-Our target audience will be anybody who is over the age of 13.

-Five advertisers that I would like to reach our readers would be Gibson Guitar Corporation, www.ultimate-guitar.com, ticketmaster/live nation, varies major and independent record labels, and Pearl Musical Instrument Company.

-Five articles that would probably be included would be interviews, exclusives of upcoming albums, reviews, teaching guides, and in depth explanations of varies genres.

-The premier cover will have brief words of what is included in the magazine with attractive colors and layout that will get the reader interested. The cover picture will be about what that issues exclusive is.

Books

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger - This book is one of my favorite books because of the way it was written and the content. It is very controversial due to the stories portrayal of profanity, sexual experiences and other teenage things. A lot of the experiences that the main character, Holden, goes through can be related to most teenagers. So as a teenager myself reading this book in High School there was some stuff that I could relate to and found fascinating on how Holden dealt with them.

Night by Elie Weasel - I found this book to be much more influential then The Dairy of Ann Frank due to the fact that it was actually about a Jewish boys experiences with concentration camps. It was compelling to read about Eliezer’s struggle to keep his faith in God while going through the terrible experiences brought to him by the Nazis.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - What I enjoyed about this book was the interesting themes of moral decay. The American Dream was something that began to become a corrupt belief and greed and materialism began to take hold of people. What I enjoyed about this book was that I was able to compare and contrast the themes of moral and social decay to that of the 21st century. American is a place where many people are very materialistic and social values are changing drastically, so when reading The Great Gatsby I was interested in reading about what these themes were like in the 1920s.

Media Impact

A media research project I propose is one based around the effects of video games. I will be researching how violence in video games have an effect on people depending on the subjects background. What I would do is research two people who play video games equally, one who is known to be violent and another who isn't. I will ask them what kind of video games they play and what kind of activities they did as younger children. What I predict is that if both subjects have not experienced violence as younger children and both play violent video games then violent video games have little to no effect on people.
